In the act of storytelling, students learn to first gather and organize a body of research not solely dependent on the internet and inclusive of libraries, museums, neighborhoods, books, exhibitions, family, and friends, all whilst taking in their own surroundings with an eye for discovery. Students are tasked with creating an original 64-page bound book, promotional poster, and presentation deck.

Beginning with choosing a subject relevant to Decolonizing the Arts, the sector chosen will serve as a jumping off point to help guide the student into a specific subject and/or protagonist that they want to focus on. The subject must be connected to the Arts in a broad sense but not necessarily western focused. The final product will be dependent on the level of research conducted by the student. The subject can be expanded to deal with a systemic disorder, belief systems, policy, educational system or any form of cultural oppression where creativity blossoms. The student’s ability to create a narrative message using found or original images and texts will be encouraged.
